Encouraging kids to read is one of my great passions, and I love to give gifts that help support young readers. Giving a book is a classic gift, but there are so many more creative and fun ways to give gifts that will encourage and support a young child's love of reading. I've pulled together a list of our favorite things, and I am SO EXCITED to be giving away our favorite bookcase from Tidy Books too!
Tidy Books is providing the prize for this giveaway but has not otherwise compensated me for inclusion in this guide. All opinions are my own. This post contains affiliate links. See my Disclosure Policy for details.
Gifts that Encourage Kids to Read
Book Storage
And, I'm so excited to be able to giveaway a personalized bookcase from Tidy Books to one lucky reader! These will be available starting in late November so they make a perfect Christmas gift. Scroll down for more details and to enter to win!
The Perfect Reading Companion
Setting up a special Reading Corner in our playroom has definitely encouraged my kids to read, and I think this Giant Teddy Bear has a lot to do with it! They love snuggling up with him to read, and he's even big enough for me to sit and read to them too. He's the best!
Books To Go
I'm a big fan of both printed books and ebooks for kids. Nothing will replace printed books for us but having a good kid friendly e-reader for travel is a must! Plus there are so many interactive book apps that really encourage kids to love to read. I love the Kindle Fire for Kids because it comes with a 2 year worry free guarantee (seriously!) and a year's worth of Amazon Free Time for tons of great kids' books, apps, and more.
A Classic Collection
What else encourages reading besides a beautiful book? Parragon Books sent us this gorgeous collection of The Fairy Tales of Hans Christian Andersen and I had to include it in this list. It would make a lovely gift for a young reader - the book is just beautiful, and includes classic tales like The Ugly Duckling and The Snow Queen. But keep in mind, these are the real deal fairy tales and not the Disney versions, so it may be better for a slightly older crowd.
Friends to Bring Your Books to Life
We love to do activities with our books and one of our favorites is retelling the story with our toys. So what better gift than a favorite storybook friend? We love our Gruffalo and Mouse. You can find other favorite friends like Spot, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, Big Nutbrown Hare, Splat the Cat, and more here.
Personalized Kid's Bookcase Giveaway
We've teamed up with Tidy Books to give one lucky reader a personalized kid's bookcase just in time for Christmas! This new product is built like their classic bookcase but with your child's name in big wooden letters on the front. These personalized bookcases will be available in late November, just in time for the holiday. Enter below to win, and click here to learn more about the new personalized bookcase!
