Call it the mudroom, the entryway, or the family drop zone, it's the first place you see when you come home and where boots, shoes, coats, backpacks, and even muddy dog paws combine to cause chaos in your otherwise clean home. But with good mudroom organization, you can contain all that stuff, keep your house clean, and actually find the things you need when its time to head out the door again.
Getting your mudroom (or entryway, as is the case in my house) organized can be a challenge. But it's very possible, no matter how small your space or how large your family. I've got some easy mudroom organization tips for you, as well as a few mudroom makeovers to inspire you. And finally, I've found some really fun DIY storage projects to make your mudroom as unique as the rest of your home.

Mudroom Organization Basics
Use a simple setup with open storage spaces that are easy to get to. Hang pegs or hooks in a row along the wall for coats, hats and other bulky items. Use baskets and bins for gloves and umbrella stands to help keep things organized.Use a bench that has an open space underneath for seating. You need a place to sit when putting on and taking off your shoes and boots. This type of bench is the perfect solution because you can store your footwear conveniently underneath.
Install cabinets for the items that you want to keep out of sight. This could be anything from extra towels to sunscreen to pet supplies.
Create a special zone for every member of the family (pets too!) so everyone knows exactly where their items go. You can use cubbies, crates or assign a shelf to each person and use them for storing purses, book bags, etc.
