Can you believe that Christmas is this week? It feels like it comes faster every year - unless you're a kid, when the days just before Christmas seem to take forever. My twins have been asking me "is it Christmas yet?" every morning since Thanksgiving. Now that it's getting so close, I'm planning some holiday activities to keep us busy until the big day. And, to add even more fun, I'm letting them pick each day's Christmas activity with this super easy DIY Christmas Week Activity Countdown.
DIY Christmas Week Activity Countdown
You can put this Christmas countdown together in just a few minutes. It's the perfect last minute addition to your Christmas fun and your kids will love it! You'll need:
- Hallmark Greeting Cards - one for each day. We're starting today and going through Christmas Eve, so I picked up 4 (plus the cutest card "from Santa" to leave out for the boys on Christmas morning, but that one is hidden away for now). Using Hallmark greeting cards makes this project super simple, because they look so great on display and are the perfect way to show you care.
- Removable Adhesive Hook
- Wide Decorative Ribbon
- Miniature Clothes Pins
- Washi Tape
- Scissors
- Marker or Pen
Directions:
First, decide what fun family activities you'd like to do this week. Write one inside each card. Some of mine were, "Build a Gingerbread House," "Drive Through Holiday Lights," and my favorite - a new Hallmark Ornament to go with a movie night (guess what we're watching?):
Once your cards are all finished, cut a long length of wide ribbon. I used 3 feet (36 inches) for my 4 cards - you can go longer or shorter depending on how many days you're planning.
Place your adhesive hook where you'd like to hang your countdown. Make a vertical cut down the center top of the ribbon, approximately 6 inches long, and tie the two ends around the hook into a bow.
Next, cover the handles of your mini clothespins with washi tape. Make one clothespin for each day of your countdown.
Now, clip your cards onto the ribbon using the clothespins. All done!
Finally, invite your children to choose a card to decide your family's fun Christmas activity for the day. Whichever card they pick is what you'll do. Have fun!
This project is so easy to put together - it's perfect if you need a last minute way to entertain the kids while they're waiting for Christmas this week. I picked up everything that I needed to make mine at Walmart - and an at-shelf coupon for $2 off a 3 card purchase made it super affordable.
You can find the Hallmark Holiday Greeting Cards and Hallmark Ornaments near the Christmas decorations or near the front of the store (impossible to miss at my store). There are so many to choose from you'll be sure to find cards that your kids love, plus 16 Walmart exclusive ornaments and more!
