Summer Reading. Two of my favorite things, better together. I have fond memories of spending hours in our backyard hammock, under the shade of a maple tree, devouring books. Everything from the Sweet Valley High books to classics like Rebecca and Huckleberry Finn.
As an adult, I still relish the opportunity to indulge in some summer reading. Thrillers are often my summer reading book of choice, and since I first read The Firm I've been hooked on anything by John Grisham. So when Penguin Books offered me a chance to catch up on his series of legal thrillers for young adults, I jumped at the opportunity. And I have two complete sets of the series to give away plus a set of Free Printable Bookmarks perfect to personalize for your own summer reading memories.

Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer
I am pretty sure that I've read everything John Grisham has written for adults. He's one of the few authors I will pre-order sight unseen (and I'm rarely disappointed). But I had never read his series for younger readers featuring "kid lawyer" Theodore Boone.
I dove into the first book in the series - Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer. Theo is the 13 year old son of two lawyers, who dreams of being a lawyer himself. Comfortable in courtrooms and with more legal knowledge than some lawyers, Theo becomes embroiled in his town's biggest trial in memory.
Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer is classic Grisham - filled with legal procedure and courtroom drama, but geared toward young teens. It reads similar to his adult novels in terms of legal wrangling and mystery solving heroes, but at a level that is accessible to younger readers and without the more adult themes that sometimes go with the crimes depicted in his books (there is a murder, but details are sparse).
Even as an adult, I thoroughly enjoyed Theodore Boone. It was a refreshing read and a bit of a detective story, but without the gritty nature of adult thrillers. And it would make a great introduction to the legal system for young future lawyers. I'm excited to jump into the next book in the series!
The Theodore Boone Series
Theodore Boone: Kid Lawyer is the first of six books featuring Theo and his legal adventures. The newest book in the series, The Scandal, was just released in May and promises to be as exciting as the previous books. Would you like to get to know Theo and dive into a great summer reading series? I have two sets of the complete Theodore Boone series to give away - simply enter below for your chance to win!
