DIY Cat Treat Jar
This is a super easy DIY project to help store your cat treats. It also makes an awesome gift for cat lovers - for the holidays or as a welcome home gift to a new cat or kitten! You can get creative and personalize it any way you'd like - I made one for our house and one to give to our neighbors. Here's the how to.
To create your own cat treat jar, you'll need:
- Clean, empty jar. I used an empty peanut butter jar, but anything with smooth sides and a secure lid will work.
- Chalkboard Paint
- Permanent Chalk Markers
- Sponge Tip Paint Brush
- Painter's Tape (Washi tape also works.)
Start by wrapping 2 strips of tape around your jar to create a band in the center. I made the band approximately 1.5" wide on my larger jar and 1" wide on my smaller one. The width is up to you.
Use your sponge brush to paint the area in between the tape, as well as the top and sides of the jar's lid. You will likely need 2 or 3 coats, and be sure to allow the first coat to dry before applying more paint.
Allow the paint to dry completely, then carefully remove the tape so that you have a smooth edge at the top and bottom.
Now use the chalk markers to decorate and personalize your treat jars! I wrote "Meow" and drew some paw prints on the smaller jar that I am giving as a gift, and personalized the larger jar for my Biggie. Be creative and decorate the jars any way you'd like. Be sure to personalize the lid too.
Fill Your Jar with Treats That Help Care for Your Cat's Teeth
As Biggie has gotten older, we have become more aware of caring for his dental health. 85% of cats show signs of oral disease by 3 years of age, and this year at age 10, Biggie had to have four teeth extracted because of dental issues. I want to do everything I can to help clean his teeth and reduce plaque and tartar, so I was so excited to find new Meow Mix Brushing Bites on my regular trip to Walmart. They are the perfect treat to fill our new treat jars.
Biggie was so excited to try out the new Meow Mix Brushing Bites. He doesn't care that he is taking care of his teeth (but I do!) - he just loves the real chicken flavor. So much so that he's hanging out by his new treat jar asking for more!
Meow Mix Brushing Bites can be found at your local Walmart and will also be available on Walmart.com soon. For now, you can find out more about Meow Mix Brushing Bites here.
