It's easy to remember to send thank you cards for the big things - after birthday parties or to teachers at the end of the year. We just finished sending our Christmas thank you notes and it was such a heartwarming experience because my boys are now able to actually participate and articulate what they loved about their gifts.
As we dropped them off at the mailbox I thought, why not continue this all year long? This inspired us to start a Thank You Card challenge and we are going to try to write at least one thank you card every week this year! And since I never seem to have a card when I want to send one, I decided to create a set that we can use all year, for every occasion.
Sending thank you cards is a simple way to encourage kids to show kindness and appreciation for others. This week, we're joining the rest of the Virtual Book Club for Kids co-hosts in reading about and celebrating acts of kindness. You can follow along too - see all the activities at the bottom of this post, or join us on Facebook for even more.
Thank You Cards for Kids to Color
After reading a few of these books, we wanted to spread a little kindness of our own. We thought a great way to start would be to acknowledge the every day acts of kindness in our lives by sending thank you notes. I challenged my boys to look for small, every day things to be grateful for, and to acknowledge them with a personalized note. Its the perfect opportunity to talk about kindness throughout the day and to reinforce how much we appreciate when people are kind.
Free Printable Thank You Cards to Color & Send
To help with our thank you card challenge, I created a set of printable thank you cards that are perfect for any occasion. And you can color them to make them more personal! There are four designs in all, including one with paw prints (we like to be kind to animals too).
Inside, you'll find prompts with your recipient's name and a few lines for you to include a personalized message, along with a spot to sign your name. If your child is not yet writing, they can dictate the message to you and draw their own picture on the blank space to the left.
To get your own set of thank you cards, simply click the button below. Print on card stock for best results, and be sure to set your printer for two-sided printing to make sure that they print correctly.
Take the Thank You Card Challenge
We've found a lot of wonderful ways to spread kindness through our thank you cards - to our vet for taking good care of our dog, to Grandma for babysitting one evening, and to Dad for bringing home ice cream one night. No act of kindness is too small to be acknowledged.
Decorating, writing, and sending our thank you cards is a wonderful exercise in both recognizing and acknowledging simple acts of every day kindness. Take the Thank You Card challenge with your family and see if you can write a thank you card to someone every week! These cards and your imagination is all you need - and they work for those big occasions like birthdays and holidays too.
