5 Vacation Safety Tips Every Traveler Should Know

Nineteen years ago this month I was relaxing on the beach in Cancun. I can't believe it was that long ago, as that trip was so memorable it seems like only yesterday. I can close my eyes and feel the warm sun and the sand beneath my toes. I can still taste the delicious food. Staying safe is something everyone needs to include in their vacation plans, no matter your destination. With these easy tips, you can be sure that your trip will be memorable for all the right reasons.

Do Your Research

The U.S. State Department has a new system for alerting Americans about safety concerns when traveling internationally. Check their website and research your destination before booking a vacation. (PS - Cancun, Riviera Maya, Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos currently have no travel restrictions!)

Remember Your ID

Always bring 2 forms of identification on your trip, and it's a good idea to make a photocopy of your passport. Keep copies of your ID in the hotel safe just in case.

Know the Area

When you arrive at your destination, familiarize yourself with the information and security desks at your resort. Find out who to contact in case you need assistance. Use the resources at your resort to help you ensure that any outings or exploring remains in tourist-friendly areas.
