No bake dog treats that make perfect homemade pill pockets too!
One of the things about having three senior pets is that your house starts to resemble a veterinary pharmacy. My dogs and cat are all on daily medication to deal with various ailments, and even though they are all pretty good about taking their pills, I like to make it super easy on all of us. But those pill pocket treats are expensive! That's why I love this recipe for making my own homemade pill pockets.
But if your pet isn't popping a pill at the moment, don't worry. These make awesome training rewards or "just because I love you" treats. They use just 3 ingredients that you probably already have, and are so easy that kids can make them too.

Easy No Bake Dog Treats
I love to keep a stash of these on hand for my dogs' daily pills, and have been known to give them one or two just because. My boys love to make these, and can easily do it by themselves. They make awesome treats for training, because you make them as small as you want. And they would make a really fun gift for a new dog owner or to donate to your local animal shelter. Here's what you need.
Ingredients
For 8-10 small treats
- 1 Tablespoon quick oats or flour*
- 1 Tablespoon peanut butter (make sure it does NOT contain Xylitol)
- 1 Teaspoon water or chicken broth
*Eating uncooked flour has been linked to the potential for food borne illnesses. If you choose to use flour instead of oats, I recommend toasting it first to kill any bacteria. Get directions here.
Directions
Combine all ingredients in a small bowl. Mix with a fork until just combined, then use your hands to form a dough.
Shape the treats into small discs as shown. For training, you may want to form tiny ball shapes instead (training treats should be very small).
If you are using these to hide pills, simply form the treats around the pill, or create a pocket, put the pill inside, and seal closed. That's it!
My dogs love these, especially our little dog Grady, who is a peanut butter fanatic. It's really helped make it easier for him to take his medicine, and he even begs for more!
