This homemade oatmeal milk bath is made with kid friendly essential oils for a soothing soak.
We often think of dry, flaky skin in winter, but around here, our skin needs extra attention in summer too. When you spend a lot of time outside in the summer your skin can suffer! Too much sun, insect bites, chlorine from the pool, and salt and sand from the beach - any and all of it can make your skin in need of a little TLC.
Nothing feels better after a long day of summer fun than a soothing bath. Kids and moms alike will love to soak in this soothing oatmeal bath that is super easy to make, smells delicious, and makes you feel awesome - no matter what you put your skin through that day.

Homemade Oatmeal Milk Bath
This homemade oatmeal milk bath is soothing on skin and simple to make. It's kid friendly, mom approved, and makes an awesome gift idea too! Here's what you need.
Supplies
- 1 cup powdered milk
- 1/4 cup oats
- 1/2 cup baking soda
- 1/4 cup Epsom salts
- 4 teaspoons sweet almond oil (or the carrier oil of your choice)
- 12-15 drops Skin Soother essential oil blend
- Soap colorant (optional)
- Mason jar or similar airtight container
I love using Plant Therapy's Skin Soother synergy for this recipe because it's already blended for you in the just right proportions, and since it is part of their Kid Safe line, I know it's safe to use with my boys (and your kids age 2+).
If you'd prefer to blend your own or use oils you have at home, you can substitute 4-5 drops each of Lavender, Chamomile, and Palmarosa.
Directions
Start by placing oats in a food processor and crush to a fine powder.
In a mixing bowl, combine powdered milk, baking soda, and Epsom salts and stir together.
Add the dry ingredients from the bowl to the oats in the food processor. Pulse a few times until well mixed. Pour this mixture back into the bowl.
In a small bowl, combine carrier oil and essential oils until blended. Add this blend to the large bowl and stir together.
Place in an airtight container for storage. Add 1/4 cup to a warm bath for soothing relief.
You can also color the entire mixture if you'd like. Add a ribbon and a sprig of decorative leaves to make an awesome gift presentation!

Optional Layered Look
If you want a layered effect (especially nice for gift giving!), then separate your finished mixture into 2 bowls. Add soap colorant to one bowl until desired color is achieved. Then alternate between the two as you place them in your jar.You can also color the entire mixture if you'd like. Add a ribbon and a sprig of decorative leaves to make an awesome gift presentation!
