Make a DIY Summer Fun station to organize outdoor toys for kids! This is a super cute way to keep your kids entertained all summer long.
A few summers ago I made a summer fun kit to organize our outdoor toys. It's been a big hit for the past few years, but as my boys have grown I've discovered our summer gear has multiplied. So this year I made expanded our summer fun kit into a super easy DIY summer fun station. It's the perfect way to keep all those little things organized and easy to find when it's time to play.

How to Make a Summer Fun Station
Like most great ideas, this one came about when I was organizing another part of the house. I found these wire shelves when we were decluttering our basement and knew that they would be perfect for organizing our summer stuff out on the deck.
Our family pretty much lives on our deck and in our backyard in summer, so it makes sense for my boys to have their own storage space for the toys that they play with every day.
To make your own summer fun station, you can repurpose any set of shelving that you may have, or find something at a garage sale or on Facebook marketplace.
Then, you'll need to determine what you need to store and find the right containers for your summer toys and gear. On the bottom of our shelves, I put our old Summer Fun Kit bucket, which is still going strong after 3 years. You can see some of the things that we keep inside here. I also added a metal bucket for water pistols because we love our water fights!
I also added our "wet gear goes here" basket to our summer fun station so my boys know where to drop their wet clothes and towels. This is my favorite summer laundry hack and you can get the printable to make it here.
On the second shelf, I added small buckets for sidewalk chalk, bubbles, and tennis balls for playing with the dogs. These little containers are great because they can grab them and go! Since they are under cover on our deck, open containers work for us. But if your summer fun station will be exposed to the elements you may want to find something similar with a lid.
My boys love helping me take care of my plants so I added a pot of fresh lavender and a watering can to the top shelf. Lavender is a great choice because it helps repel mosquitoes, fleas, ticks, and flies. It's an awesome way to keep those pests at bay while we're out having fun!
Of course I topped it off with a summer themed letter board and left some space for the boys to put their water bottles on hot days.
I'm just in love with how our summer fun station turned out! It keeps all our summer odds and ends organized. The boys know where to find their toys when they want to play and more importantly, where to put them away when they are done.
