My two dogs couldn't be more different. Yes, they are both 11 years old and beloved members of our family. But that's about where the similarities end.
Grady is small, black (though he's getting whiter around the face every year), and the most relaxed dog you've ever met.
Griffey is big, white (hides his age), and anxious about everything. Seriously. A knock on the door, a glimpse of the UPS van, or even the vacuum can send him into fits of barking. Even though he's had Grady by his side for over 10 years, he still has a hard time being like his calm little brother.
We're always on the lookout for calming treats with a dog like Griffey, and when I first heard about CBD I was intrigued, and honestly, a little nervous.

Then I did my homework, and found that I had a lot of misconceptions about CBD and what it could do for my dogs.
What are CBD dog treats anyway?
CBD stands for cannabidiol. It is derived from the hemp plant, and is a naturally occurring molecule that works in the endocannabinoid system of an animal. This system is responsible for regulating and balancing many processes in the body, and is tied to mood, pain response, and more.
While CBD does come from hemp, it does not cause the "high" associated with marijuana use, and can have many important benefits. Reading more about CBD made me want to give it a try to help my anxious dog.
We tried some CBD treats. And both of my dogs turned up their noses.

Calming Dog Treats - the Verdict
The box arrived and it was a really good sign - Griffey couldn't wait to sniff it out. I decided to try the Calm + Vitality treats first, because Griffey is getting older and finding his mobility is not what it used to be.
He took a sniff, thought about it for a minute, then gobbled it up. He loved these treats!
I immediately noticed that the Vitality treats from Lazarus Naturals did not have the earthy, hemp-like scent that I had found with other treats (and if I can smell it you know my dogs can). These were much more palatable for my sometimes picky dog, and he even asked for more!
Calm + Vitality is the perfect choice for Griffey. As an anxious dog, he needs calming treats before stressful situations like car rides.
